«If we opened people up, we would find landscapes»

Starting from the sentence by filmmaker Agnès Varda, the project explores the archive as a device of transformation.

The work began with the glass plates of local photographer Miquel Martí Florensa, preserved in Tàrrega, Catalonia: portraits and scenes of everyday life, originally fixed with clarity and intention.
Searching further into the archive, I found many plates that deterioration, scratches, stains had rendered unrecognizable. It is here that the archive stops being a place of conservation alone and revealed itself as something still active, a device of transformation working on the image from within.

I photographed these unrecognizable plates, and in the resulting images the human figure dissolves into what I read as abstract landscapes, giving literal form to Varda’s words: the personal opens onto something universal, a space of transit between memory and loss, revealing the fragility of both matter and the communities it contains.

Si obríssim les persones, hi trobaríem paisatges was developed during a residency for TRANSDOCUMENTAR 2026, in collaboration with the Arxiu Comarcal de l’Urgell.
