Archivio Pollica is a project that started in November 2023 in Pollica (SA), on the southern coast of Italy.

Home of the Mediterranean diet and famous for its renowned seaside, the small town of Pollica is now facing demographic and economic problems common to many Italian villages. Its community of inhabitants is thinning and dispersing, also due to age, and with it its history and traditions.

The project aims at the creation of a community archive through two main practices: the establishment of a photographic studio in the main square of the town; the collection and digitisation of family albums. The photographic studio is responsible of portraying the inhabitants, as a visual record of the community. The family albums actively operate in preserving shared history, adding to the community’s collective memory while preventing material from damaging and aging. The community archive will ensure that Pollica’s past and present are preserved for future generations while creating a dialogue within the community.

Currently, the archive consists of about 300 portraits and more than 3000 family photos acquired.
